Network Modernization
Telecommunications operators are faced with the challenge of how to optimize their networks. A gradual modernization of their existing circuit-switched TDM networks to modern-day networks is a must. In past decades those networks were subject to heavy investments, so now, the transition to new IP networks is not considered as a simple task that can be done instantly.
Iskratel offers a migration from TDM via NGN to IMS by the gradual incorporation of elements that are based on IP technology. Iskratel’s products and solutions entirely support the mentioned transition and logical evolution. These network elements allow the fast and simple migration of the carrier infrastructure, successful both from the technological and the business points of view.
The existing network equipment may be out of service or the maintenance costs are growing exponentially. Regulatory bodies are requesting new mechanisms that cannot be fulfilled by the old fashioned systems (e.g., the effective handling of emergency calls, lawful interception, and number portability). Network modernization scenarios can be done in different variants:
- TDM -> NGN
- TDM -> NGN -> IMS
- TDM -> IMS
The selected scenario depends on the customer needs, strategy and future plans, network situation, and market situation.
These implementation variants ensure full investment protection. Thanks to the universal hardware and software architecture, the maximum migration flexibility is ensured. The operator, who already made the migration from the TDM to NGN architecture, can make a further migration step to the IMS Core without any HW or SW changes. Furthermore, one SI3000 platform can serve NGN and IMS subscribers at the same time – dual-mode functionality is supported. The migration of subscribers from the NGN to IMS mode at any time is possible without any lasting HW changes or SW upgrade. The NGN configuration can migrate into the SI3000 IMS Compact Edge or the SI3000 IMS Compact Core – as an essential piece of the new operator’s network architecture for offering new services and functionalities, like Unified Communications, FMC, RCS, VoLTE and others.
